Aber bevor wir konkret auf die Frage eingehen, was die Konsequenzen aus dem Luma Theme end-of-life sind und wie es bezüglich dem Thema Frontend für Magento weitergeht, kurz ein paar Worte zu aktuellen Situation rund um Magento insgsamt

Zuletzt hatten wir in unserem Blog Post Noch ein Blick auf die Zukunft von Magento darüber berichtet. Mittlerweile gibt es das sehr lesenswerte "Januar 2022" Update der Magento Open Source Community Alliance (MOSCA).
Die wohl wichtigste Aussage aus diesem Update: "Magento 2 is in fantastic shape, thanks to a lot of effort put in by both Adobe and the community. The platform has never been more flexible and stable, filling all merchants’ needs." Dem und auch der ansonsten durchweg positiven Message des Updates können wir uns nur anschließen.

Keine Frage, noch positiver wäre es wenn es auch seitens Adobe ein stärkeres Interesse und Commitment zu Magento Open Source und insbesondere Magento auch weiterhin als Lösung auch für kleine und mittelgroße Händler zu positionieren gäbe, sowohl produkttechnisch als auch hinsichtlich Marketing. Schließlich liegen die Wurzeln von Magento genau hier und es war diese breite Nutzerbasis die das Fundament sind auf dem Magento zu dem werden konnte was es ist - die wohl beste E-Commerce Lösung der Welt, die sowohl die Anforderung von kleinen Händlern als auch die Anforderungen auf Enterprise-Level erfüllen kann.

Aber so ist es nunmal, die Entscheidung seitens Adobe, mit "Adobe Commerce" nur noch Enterprise-Kunden anzusprechen und immer stärker auf die Verzahnung mit anderen Adobe Services zu setzen, ist gefallen.
Ein Grund zur Sorge ist das jedoch nicht, dank der MOSCA Initiative und der einzigartigen Magento Community, wir Magento Open Source auch in Zukunft eine erstklassige Wahl auch für kleine und mittelständische E-Commerce Businesses sein.

Laut Adobe hat das Luma Theme ausgedient und wird nicht mehr weiterentwickelt. Einen konkreten Termin für das "Ende" das Luma Theme gibt es bisher nicht, es soll aber zumindest nicht kurzfristig kommen. Zu erwarten ist das "Sundowning" des Luma Theme vermutlich irgendwann nachdem das seitens Adobe als designiertes Nachfolge Frontend vorgesehene "PWA Studio", dessen aktuelle proof-of-concept Implementierung das "Venia Storefront" ist, einen finalen Stand erreicht hat.

Nicht mehr weiterentwickelt bedeutet aber auch: Es wird für das Luma Theme vorraussichtlich nur noch notwendige Security Patches, Maintenance Updates etc., aber keine wesentlichen Neuerungen und keine Innovationen mehr geben.

In anderen Worten: Einen Stand mit dem das Luma Theme eine angemessene Performance und zeitgemäße PageSpeed bzw. Core Web Vitals Werte erreicht, wird es nicht mehr geben.

Für neue Projekte die jetzt mit Magento geplant werden kann man das Luma Theme nicht mehr guten Gewissens empfehlen.
Egal ob es sich um ein komplett neues E-Commerce Projekt mit Magento handelt, eine Migration von einer anderen Cart Software oder Plattform oder auch nur um ein Re-Design oder Optimierung eines bestehenden Magento Shop. In diesen Fällen wäre die Nutzung des Luma Theme eine Investition die schon bei Umsetzng veraltet wäre. Eine zeitgemäße Performance und User-Experience ist mit dem Luma Theme mit vertretbarem Aufwand ohnehin nicht zu erreichen.
Bei neuen Projekten sollte man sich also dringend für eine Alternative entscheiden um zu vermeiden in vielleicht 1 oder 2 Jahren direkt wieder alles neu machen zu müssen.

Kein Grund zur Panik! Für Magento Shops die aktuell das Luma Theme oder ein auf Luma basierendes Theme von Drittanbietern als Frontend einsetzen, spricht nichts dagegen dieses auch noch einige Zeit weiterzunutzen. Zumindest sofern es zufriedenstellend und gut funktioniert.

Empfehlenswert ist es aber dennoch auch für diese Online-Shops sich möglichst frühzeitig mit dem Thema Frontend zu beschäftigen, sich Alternativen anzuschauen und eine Migration in der längerfristigen Planung zu berücksichtigen.

Dabei sollte man sich aber auch bewusst sein: Jeder Invest in eine weitere Optimierung des bestehenden Luma Theme Frontend, ist ein Invest in eine sterbende Technologie. Also ein Invest in ein Frontend das sehr wahrscheinlich in nicht allzu ferner Zukunft durch ein neues abgelöst werden wird. Statt also jetzt noch größere Budgets in ein Luma Frontend zu stecken, könnte es evtl. sinnvoller sein eine Migration auf eine Alternative früher als unbdedingt notwendig anzugehen und dieses Budget direkt für die Optimierung eines neuen Frontend zu verwenden.

Einen direkten Nachfolger für das Luma Theme wird es seitens Adobe nicht geben.
Aber es ist wohl nicht zuletzt den Unzulänglichkeiten des Luma Theme zu verdanken, dass sowohl Adobe als auch die Magento Community sich bereits seit längerem mit der Suche nach Alternativen beschäftigen. Mit dem Ergebnis, dass es schon Heute verschiedene Alternativen gibt, mit grundsätzlich unterschiedlichen Ansätzen und Lösungen.
Was sicher nicht die schlechteste Entwicklung für das Magento Ökosystem ist, denn ein vielfältiges Angebot wird letztlich auch zu Wettbewerb und damit mehr Innovation führen. Die verfügbaren Alternativen stellen wir im Folgenden kurz vor:

Schon seit einigen Jahren werden "Progressive Web Applications" (PWA) oder genauer gesagt "Headless Frontends" als die Zukunft für E-Commerce Frontends propagiert. So sind mittlerweile einige PWA Frontends für Magento verfügbar. Neben "PWA Studio" von Adobe, dem designierten Nachfolge-Frontend für das Luma Theme, VueStorefront, ScandiPWA und andere.

Wir bei JaJuMa konnten mit diesem Hype um PWAs nie wirklich viel anfangen. Wann immer wir uns eine dieser Lösungen angeschaut haben konnte uns diese nicht wirklich überzeugen. Die generelle Architektur dieser Headless Lösungen, die zugrundeliegende Technologie, die Performance die am Ende die Versprechungen nicht erfüllen konnte und vor allem die mit PWAs verbundene Komplexität bei der Umsetzung... Keine dieser PWA Frontends konnte unsere Anforderungen erfüllen um für unsere Kunden Lösungen zur Verfügung zu stellen die unseren Ansprüchen an Qualität und Budgetbedarf gerecht werden.

Wir sind froh, das uns und unseren Kunden die negativen Erfahrungen anderer Agenturen mit der Umsetzung von PWA Frontends erspart geblieben ist.

Es mag sein, dass es Use-Cases gibt für die eine PWA die passende Lösung ist (z. B. eventuell in Anwendungsszenarien im Enterprise-Level Bereich). Es hat sich aber gezeigt, das unsere Einschätzung zum Thema PWA nicht ganz falsch war. Der Reifegrad der verfügbaren PWA Lösungen lässt oft noch zu wünschen übrig, was umfangreiche Eigenentwicklungen erforderlich macht. Eine wirkliche gute Performance ist mit PWAs (entgegen der üblichen Versprechungen) nur schwer zu erreichen, um die Komplexität die mit PWAs einhergeht zu stemmen ist ein entsprechendes Projekt-Team erforderlich usw.

Eine PWA Lösung ist deshalb aus unserer Sicht nur für Online-Händler eine Überlegung wert, die eine konkrete Anforderung haben die mit PWAs besser gelöst werden kann (Was auch immer das ist...) und das entsprechende Budget für ein solches Projekt investieren wollen.

Es bleibt abzuwarten ob es bis zum bzw. mit dem tatsächlichen Ende des Luma Theme noch weitere Alternativen ergeben. Für mehr Wettbewerb zwischen den verschiedenen Ansätzen wäre dies sicher nicht das schlechteste für das Magento Ökosystem.
So gibt es z. B. bereits jetzt das "Breeze" Frontend von SwissUpLabs welches einen ähnlichen Ansatz wie das Hyvä Theme verfolgt. Nach unserer Einschätzung allerdings weniger ausgefeilt und durchdacht als Hyvä Themes.

Es tut sich einiges in der Magento-Welt!
Ein Grund zur Sorge ist das nicht. Selbst wenn Adobe sich aus der Vermarktung von Magento Open Source zurückzieht und sich primär auf seine Entprise Lösung Adobe Commerce sowie die Integration weiterer Adobe Services fokussiert. Alles deutet darauf hin, dass Magento in der Open Source Variante auch in Zukunft die führende E-Commerce Lösung auch und gerade für kleine und mittelständische Online Händler sein wird.
Hyvä Themes ist das beste Beispiel für die Stärke und Innovationskraft der Magento Community. Nachdem Adobe es nicht geschafft hat ein adäquates Frontend für Magento auf die Beine zu stellen, ist Willem Wigman, der Macher des Hyvä Themes in die Presche gesprungen und füllt diese Lücke nun aus.
Und das auf beeindruckende Art und Weise wie wir finden. Wir sind überzeugt, Hyvä Themes wird das führende Frontend für Magento der nächsten Jahre sein.
Mit einer Entscheidung für Magento mit Hyvä Themes als Frontend kann man nicht viel falsch machen!

Aber die gute Nachricht ist:

Es gibt viele Erweiterungen, die versprechen, einen Magento-Shop "DSGVO-konform" zu machen. Wenn Sie einen Magento 2 Shop betreiben, verwenden Sie wahrscheinlich bereits die eine oder andere Erweiterung, wie z.B. eine Erweiterung, die einen Cookie Banner hinzufügt, wie es das EU-Cookie-Gesetz verlangt (jeder liebt sie, nicht wahr?). Z. B. "Amasty Cookie Consent" oder "Mirasvit DSGVO für Magento 2", die auch kompatibel ist mit Hyvä Theme.

Keine dieser Erweiterungen bietet Ihnen jedoch die vollständige Einhaltung der DSGVO, denn es gibt viele Aspekte, die es zu beachten gilt und die befolgt werden müssen, wenn es darum geht, die DSGVO einzuhalten und die Privatsphäre der Kunden zu respektieren.

Im Folgenden werden wir 6 Magento Extensions vorstellen, die Ihnen helfen Ihren Magento 2 Online-Shop "DSGVO-Ready" zu machen - aber verpassen Sie auch nicht den Bonusabschnitt unten mit Tipps, die Ihnen helfen werden, die DSGVO zu meistern und gleichzeitig Ihrem Magento 2-Shop einen Performance-Boost geben.

1. Matomo Analytics

Das Verbot von Google Analytics in Europa könnte vor der Tür stehen, wie erste Gerichtsurteile und Verfahren in Österreich und den Niederlanden vermuten lassen. (Quelle). Aber Magento-Händler müssen nicht befürchten, die Vorteile und Einblicke zu verlieren, die ein Analytics Werkzeug bietet. Zum Glück gibt es eine Alternative, die sich problemlos in Magento 2 integrieren und nutzen lässt:

2. Honey Spam Anti-Spam

Spam-Kundenregistrierungen, Spam-Newsletter-Abonnenten, Spam-Kontaktnachrichten, Spam-Produktbewertungen... Das ist ein häufiges Problem in Magento-Shops und auf jeder Website, die Formulare für Kunden bereitstellt. Jedes Formular, das dem Kunden die Möglichkeit gibt, mit Ihnen als Shop-Betreiber zu interagieren, wird früher oder später von Spammern und Spambots missbraucht, wenn es nicht angemessen geschützt werden.
Magento bietet standardmäßig Google ReCaptcha als Mittel gegen Spam an, so dass es einfach zu bedienen ist und zuverlässig funktioniert. zuverlässig. Die Verwendung von Google ReCaptcha oder ähnlichen Diensten von Drittanbietern zum Schutz vor Spam ist jedoch nicht DSGVO konform.
Natürlich ist es keine Option, ReCaptcha einfach zu deaktivieren und all den zu erwartenden Spam zu ertragen, wenn man dies tut. Aber keine Sorge, als Magento-Händler können Sie sich und Ihren Shop zuverlässig vor Spam schützen, einfach UND DSGVO-konform:

3. Video Widget

Videos und Multimedia spielen eine wichtige Rolle, wenn es darum geht, Emotionen und Zuneigung für eine Marke und Ihre Produkte in Ihrem Magento 2-Shop zu schaffen. Viele Shop-Betreiber ziehen es vor, ihre Videos auf YouTube zu hosten. Leider erfordert das Einbetten von extern gehosteten Videos eine Zustimmung des Nutzers, bevor Inhalte von einer Videoplattform eines Drittanbieters geladen werden dürfen und kann zu einem Performance-Killer werden, da das Video in einem iFrame zusammen mit einer Menge zusätzlicher Skripte geladen wird. Aber es gibt eine Lösung.

4. Shariff Social Share Buttons

Das Hinzufügen von Buttons zum Teilen von Inhalten in sozialen Medien ist eine gute Möglichkeit, die Sichtbarkeit in den sozialen Medien zu erhöhen, so dass Kunden mit Ihrer Marke zu interagieren und mehr Besucher Ihren Shop besuchen. Kein Wunder, dass die meisten Online-Shops Buttons zum Teilen integrieren. Aber die von sozialen Netzwerken wie Facebook oder Twitter bereitgestellten Buttons zum Teilen sind nicht DSGVO-konform. Das bedeutet natürlich nicht, dass Sie auf das Hinzufügen von Social Sharing Buttons in Ihren Magento 2-Shop verzichten müssen:

Wir haben 2022, Zeit die DSGVO nicht mehr nur als ein lästiges Übel zu sehen, sondern als eine Chance Vertrauen in Ihre Marke auzubauen und gleichzeitig die User Experience und Performance Ihres Magento 2 Shop zu steigern.
Wenn Sie sich mit der Einhaltung der DSGVO bereits beschäftigt haben, waren die Datenschutzanforderungen die mit den ersten 4 vorgestellten Magento Extension adressiert wurden für Sie vielleicht nicht ganz neu. Aber lassen Sie uns noch einen Schritt weiter gehen und uns einige weniger bekannte Aspekte der DSGVO-Compliance betrachten.

Vorab: Am Tag der Veröffentlichung des Briefes habe ich mich nach der Lektüre beider Briefe zunächst gefragt, warum jeder der beiden Briefe:

einen ganz anderen Ton zu haben schien. Doch abgesehen von den Formulierungen kann ich der Kernbotschaft und den Absichten, die hinter den Briefen stehen, voll und ganz zustimmen und habe gleich am ersten Tag unterschrieben.

Magento ist im Besitz von und Teil von Adobe. Ich bin der festen Überzeugung, dass dies eine großartige Einrichtung oder Partnerschaft für alle Beteiligten sein kann. Auch wenn unterschiedliche Ziele im Spiel sind.
Adobe zielt auf den Enterprise-Markt und sieht das Magento-Kernprodukt nur als Teil seines "Experience Cloud"-Serviceangebots.
Die Open-Source-Community von Magento ist eher auf kleine und mittelständische Unternehmen ausgerichtet.
Die Grenzen zwischen diesen Zielen sind hier ohnehin fließend, die Anforderungen und Ansprüche teilen beide und überschneiden sich in großen Teilen. Wenn es richtig gemacht wird, können alle Beteiligten im Magento-Ökosystem stark voneinander profitieren, unabhängig davon, welches Hauptziel verfolgt wird.
Magento Open Source kann von dem großen Namen, der Markenreputation, dem Marketing und auch der Finanzkraft profitieren, die Adobe bieten kann.
Adobe und seine Kunden können von Innovationen, Wissensaustausch, zusätzlichen Diensten und Erweiterungen profitieren, die von einer Armee von Entwicklern und Agenturen bereitgestellt werden.
Getrennte Wege zu gehen würden sowohl Adobe als auch der Magento-Community schaden.
Ich hoffe sehr, dass dies nicht passieren wird.
Gemeinsam sind wir stärker!

Jeder, der sich mit Magento beschäftigt hat, weiß, dass es spätestens seit der Veröffentlichung von Magento 2, das die Erwartungen nicht erfüllt hat, eine gewisse Unzufriedenheit innerhalb der Community gibt. In den vergangenen Jahren wuchs diese Unzufriedenheit zu der Frustration, die zu den Briefen führte, über die wir jetzt alle diskutieren. Wie konnte das passieren?

Fokus auf Unternehmenslösungen

Es gibt viele Gründe für diese Situation. Viele Mitglieder der Community haben ihre Bedenken vor und nach dem Brief geäußert, so dass es nicht nötig ist, sie alle zu wiederholen. Aber viele dieser Bedenken sind auf Adobes zunehmenden Fokus auf ihr Magento Enterprise Produkt und ihre Dienstleistungen zurückzuführen, während gleichzeitig Magento Open Source und die Bedürfnisse von KMUs (kleine und mittlere Unternehmen) ignoriert oder zumindest nicht genug beachtet werden. Der Wechsel zu mehr Microservices bei gleichzeitigem Mangel an Innovation, zahllosen offenen Bugs und ignorierten PRs (Pull Requests) führte dazu, dass sich viele Mitglieder der Community übergangen und zurückgelassen fühlten.

Noch mehr Fokus auf Unternehmenslösungen und weniger auf kleinere Unternehmen

Zu viele Entscheidungen wurden getroffen, die eindeutig nur den Unternehmensmarkt im Auge hatten. Das Hinzufügen von Elasticsearch, einer großartigen Technologie, ist sicherlich eine gute Sache, aber warum sollte die bestehende MySQL-Suche veraltet sein und vollständig entfernt werden, die für viele Händler, die Magento verwenden, immer noch in Ordnung wäre. Warum noch mehr Komplexität und Kosten? Wer profitiert davon, dass Magento schwieriger zu nutzen und teurer wird? Enterprise-Usern mag das egal sein, für uns als Agentur ist es schön, mit neuer Technologie zu arbeiten, aber für große Teile der Community sind solche Entscheidungen einfach ein - sorry - Tritt in den Hintern...

Ein Marktplatz, der Dinge tut...

Btw, was ist die Idee hinter der Entfernung der Option, gekaufte Extensions vom Magento Marketplace herunterzuladen?
Keine Frage, die Installation per Composer ist technisch gesehen der bevorzugte Weg für die Installation von Extensions, aber warum sollte man Kunden die manuelle Installation von Extensions verwehren, wenn sie diesen Weg bevorzugen?
Was ist hier die Mission von Magento Marketplace?
Ihre zahlenden Kunden wie kleine Kinder zu erziehen "Uhoh, nono, iss nicht zu viele Süßigkeiten, das ist schlecht!" oder geht es darum, Geld zu verdienen und der Community zu dienen, indem man eine Infrastruktur für den Vertrieb von Extensions für jeden bereitstellt?
Wie wäre es, jedem die Wahlfreiheit zu geben, wie er seine Seiten betreiben will?
Dank der Entscheidung des Multi-Milliarden-Dollar-Unternehmens Adobe, keine direkten Downloads mehr zuzulassen, erhalten wir als kleine Agentur nun tonnenweise Anfragen, unsere Extensions + Updates als .zip-Pakete zur Verfßügung zu stellen. Als Anbieter von Extensions zahlen wir 30%(!) unserer Einnahmen an Adobe für die Bereitstellung der E-Commerce-Plattform für den Verkauf unserer Extensions. Darüber hinaus sind wir jetzt damit beschäftigt, .zip-Pakete manuell zu versenden.
Korrigieren Sie mich, wenn ich falsch liege, aber das ist kein E-Commerce, wie er sein sollte...

[Hier war ein weiterer Absatz mit einer kleinen Tirade über Magento Marketplace, aber ich habe beschlossen, ihn nicht zu veröffentlichen. Es ist nicht alles schlecht und es gibt gute Leute, die ihr Bestes tun, um die Dinge zu verbessern.
Aber ganz ehrlich, unser Hauptgeschäft ist der Aufbau und Betrieb von Online Marktplätzen für unsere Kunden. Wenn ich sehe, wie die Dinge bei Magento Marketplace laufen, bricht es mir manchmal das Herz. Wir wären schon längst aus dem Geschäft, wenn wir unseren Kunden den gleichen Service bieten würden...]

Das Luma-Desaster

Vielleicht das offensichtlichste Beispiel ist das Luma Frontend. Vom ersten Tag seiner Veröffentlichung an kritisiert, erfüllte es nie wirklich die Erwartungen, weder von Entwicklern noch von Händlern. Umso mehr, als die Messlatte für die Leistung von Google durch Lighthouse Score Updates und die Einführung von Core Web Vitals KPIs höher gelegt wurde. Ich schätze, niemand wird ernsthaft behaupten, dass Luma ein wettbewerbsfähiges Frontend ist, das die heutigen Erwartungen von Nutzern, Entwicklern, Kunden und Händlern erfüllen kann.
Luma ist ein weiteres Beispiel dafür, was in den letzten Jahren schief gelaufen ist, wobei Bedenken der Community ignoriert wurden. Adobes einzige Antwort darauf ist die Entwicklung von PWA Studio, einer weiteren Lösung, die nur für Unternehmenskunden gedacht und geeignet ist, während das Luma-Frontend im Wesentlichen veraltet ist und aufgegeben wurde.

Die Magento-Community blutet aufgrund der jüngsten Entwicklungen aus.

Der Vertrauensverlust in Adobe als gutes Zuhause für Magento und in die Fähigkeit, Magento als Open-Source-Produkt und den Menschen, die mit Magento arbeiten, eine tragfähige Zukunft zu bieten, treibt immer mehr Community-Mitglieder weg.

Die Zahl der Entwickler, die zu Magento beitragen, und die Zahl der PRs der Community hat ein Rekordtief erreicht. Immer mehr Entwickler und Agenturen ziehen weiter und arbeiten mit alternativen Lösungen, um am Leben zu bleiben, Händler entscheiden sich für andere Warenkorbsysteme mit niedrigeren TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) und einem moderneren Tech-Stack.

Es ist an der Zeit, dieses Ausbluten zu stoppen, es muss etwas getan werden!

Keine Frage, angesichts des überwältigenden Feedbacks, sowohl quantitativ als auch qualitativ, kam der Offene Brief genau zum richtigen Zeitpunkt und hat einen Nerv getroffen!

Um ehrlich zu sein, habe ich keine Ahnung, wie das verlorene Vertrauen wieder vollständig aufgebaut werden kann, zumindest nicht kurzfristig. Vertrauen aufzubauen ist keine leichte Aufgabe und braucht Zeit. Aber Vertrauen wieder aufzubauen, wenn es einmal verloren wurde, ist noch schwieriger. Taten zählen mehr als Worte.

Die bisherigen Reaktionen von Adobe auf den Brief sind aus meiner Sicht nicht viel mehr als Lippenbekenntnisse. Ein kleiner Beitrag in einem Community-Forum, der den Brief nicht einmal direkt erwähnt, die (bisher zahnlose) Magento Association (anscheinend habe ich mich vor langer Zeit bei dieser MA angemeldet, zumindest bekomme ich die Spam-Mails...), die die Einrichtung einer Task Force bis Ende des Jahres verspricht, einige Adobe-Mitarbeiter, die an der MeetMagento Poland-Podiumsdiskussion teilnehmen (aus verständlichen Gründen schweigend).
Das ist nicht genug. Was die Community jetzt braucht, sind Taten, Veränderungen, zum Besseren, schnell.

Persönlich bin ich der Meinung, dass die derzeitige Konstellation, in der Magento vollständig von Adobe kontrolliert wird und die Community nur das mitbekommt, was sie bekommt, niemals eine Konstellation sein wird, die es Magento (inkl. Adobe Commerce) erlaubt, zu gedeihen und sein volles Potential zu erreichen.
Ein so großes Open-Source-Produkt wie Magento zu verwalten ist eine große Verantwortung. Es sind Hunderttausende von Menschen, die von Magento abhängen und ihren Lebensunterhalt damit verdienen. Händler, Agenturen, Entwickler und so weiter.
Ich glaube nicht, dass Adobe jemals für diese Verantwortung einstehen wird oder kann. Adobe ist zu groß und kein Unternehmen, das seine Wurzeln im Open-Source-Bereich hat. Für Adobe ist Magento nur ein kleiner Teil ihrer Experience Cloud Services, die insgesamt nur ~25% ihres Umsatzes ausmachen.
Jede Entscheidung, die Adobe trifft, wird immer versuchen, im besten Interesse ihrer Stakeholder und zahlenden Kunden zu sein (das kann man ihnen nicht vorwerfen, so funktionieren Unternehmen). Im besten Fall kann Adobe die Magento Open-Source und die Community als einen strategischen Vorteil sehen. Aber lassen Sie mich mit einer kleinen Nebengeschichte erklären, warum ich nicht glaube, dass das funktionieren kann oder wird:

Vielleicht erinnern Sie sich noch an Nokia, den einstigen Handy-Riesen, der fast eine Monopolstellung innehatte.
Irgendwann verlor man in rasantem Tempo Marktanteile an neue Konkurrenten (nämlich Apple und Google), die das bessere Produkt hatten. Nokia konnte mit seinem veralteten mobilen Betriebssystem "Symbian" einfach nicht mehr mithalten. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte Nokia bereits eine großartige Alternative zur Hand, die auf dem Open-Source-Mobilbetriebssystem Maemo/MeeGo basierte, das zusammen mit Intel und einer lebhaften und engagierten Community entwickelt wurde, und einige proprietäre Teile obendrauf. Wahrscheinlich wird jeder, der das einzige Telefon mit diesem Betriebssystem, das legendäre Nokia N9, besaß, noch heute sentimental, wenn er daran denkt, denn es war außergwöhnlich und seiner Zeit weit voraus.
Um den Abwärtstrend zu stoppen, ernannte Nokia jedoch einen ehemaligen Microsoft-Manager zum neuen CEO. Anstatt die Chance zu ergreifen und wettbewerbsfähige Produkte auf der Grundlage dieser bereits verfügbaren Open-Source-Plattform zu entwickeln, entschied sich der neue CEO, mit einem anderen sterbenden mobilen Betriebssystem sein Glück zu versuchen: Windows Mobile. Das interne Maemo/MeeGo-Entwicklungsteam wurde gefeuert.
Das Ergebnis: Nokia, wie man es kannte, ist tot, Windows Mobile ist weg
(MeeGo hat stark gelitten, lebt aber als Open-Source unter dem Namen SailfishOS weiter).

Natürlich war die Situation um Nokia und MeeGo damals eine andere als die um Adobe und Magento heute. Aber dennoch zeigt dieses Beispiel, wie Entscheidungen in großen Unternehmen getroffen werden.
Entscheidungen in Unternehmen werden nicht immer rational getroffen, sie folgen nicht immer dem technisch besten Weg, sondern dem, der das geringste Risiko zu sein scheint. Entscheidungen sind politisch motiviert oder (auch persönlich) voreingenommen. Entscheidungen werden nach finanziellen Gesichtspunkten und zur Befriedigung der Aktionäre getroffen.
Und genau das ist der Punkt hier: Magento und insbesondere die Magento-Community existiert nicht in Adobes Büchern. Die Adobe-Aktionäre kennen Magento nicht, sie kennen nur etwas namens "Adobe Experience Cloud".

Wie steht es um das Adobe-Management außerhalb der Magento/Commerce-Sparte?
Kennen sie die Magento-Community, was sie bedeutet und welchen enormen Wert sie für Adobe hat?
Haben sie einen Blick über den Tellerrand und erkennen den strategischen Wert, den Magento und vor allem seine Community für Adobe hat?
Ich fürchte, wenn man sich den aktuellen Stand der Dinge, die getroffenen Entscheidungen und die Kommunikation ansieht, lautet die Antwort:
Nein, das tun sie nicht.

Die Hauptbotschaft des Offenen Briefes aus meiner Sicht: Magento ist nicht tot!

Im Gegenteil, dank der großartigen Magento-Community bin ich zuversichtlich, dass wir eine gute und lange Zukunft vor uns haben. Die Energie und Leidenschaft, die durch die Briefe, die Menschen dahinter sowie die unzähligen Antworten auf diese Briefe gezeigt wird, zeigen deutlich, dass die Community sich darum kümmern kann und wird.
Aber die Hoffnung stirbt zuletzt, ich hoffe immer noch, dass Adobe an Bord bleibt mit einem starken Engagement und der Bereitschaft zu helfen und zu unterstützen, das volle Potential von Magento zu entwickeln und auf alle Bedürfnisse der Community einzugehen.

Das Beispiel Luma zeigt, wie sehr Adobe von einem klaren Bekenntnis zu Magento Open-Source profitieren kann:
Es brauchte eine Person aus der Community, Willem Wigman, um das Hyva Theme zu entwickeln.
Das alternative Frontend, das Magento so dringend gebraucht hat. Ein Frontend, das Magento endlich wieder zu einer ernstzunehmenden Option für Händler macht, die sich den PWA-Weg nicht leisten können oder einfach nicht gehen wollen. Ein hochmodernes Frontend, das auch für Adobe Commerce-Kunden eine wertvolle Verbesserung darstellen kann.

So, Adobe, hier ist es, dein Center of Innovation, deine Schattenarbeiter für dich und deine Kunden:
Nimm die Magento-Community an die Hand, lass uns gemeinsam eine glänzende Zukunft haben.

Wenn ich einen Wunsch frei hätte: Magento würde einem Gremium gehören, das sowohl von Adobe als auch von der Community als gleichberechtigte Partner geführt wird. Und dieses Gremium ist dafür verantwortlich, die Aktivitäten und Entwicklungen rund um Magento zu managen und dabei die Bedürfnisse beider Partner auszubalancieren, aber in einem schnelleren Tempo, als wir es in den letzten Jahren gesehen haben.
Ich glaube, dass eine solche Struktur beiden Seiten, Adobe und der Community, den größten Nutzen bringen würde. Ohne dass eine Seite befürchten müsste, irgendwann die Grundlage ihres Geschäfts zu verlieren.
